A recently revealed plan to redevelop the Rákosrendező area in Budapest promises a multi-billion investment, a value that in today's world justifies all means. While the promised shiny skyscrapers and luxury lifestyle will remain out of reach for most Budapest citizens, the true cost of the disruptive urbanism is being muddied in government-backed corporate agreements. For the last eight years I have been covering the identical urban redevelopment project in Belgrade, the place I call home. It transformed the city for the worse and enabled unprecedented corruption. I created photographs as a record of the area about to be transformed, wondering whether Budapest is awaiting a similar faith.
