YOU ARE PRETTY, SELFIE?
BENEDICTA BIBUKU
I have always had my assumptions about how I might be perceived as a black woman, in eastern Europe. My first encounter in Budapest, was with a man complimenting me and asking for a selfie, which enhanced the feeling of being out of place. A fear of becoming extraordinary and invisible, but still highly visible to the people of the city. I found myself isolated in a city in which my identity feels more of an exception than the norm. This triggered me to look for comfort in the beauty of the floral world while simultaneously diving into the aspects of the city that made me feel disconnected from it.
